Star Trek: Generations was a very good film, worthy of the Star Trek universe. Star Trek: First Contact went down with the emotions and the quality, but it was good too... I was very disappointed of Star Trek Insurrection, it was just like a single chapter of the TV series. And, after Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, I think Star Trek: Nemesis is the worst Star Trek movie ever filmed.

So, the original movie collection cleaned his face after the awful, awful Start Trek V with an excellent ending: Star Trek VI, The undiscovered country. In the other side, Star Trek TNG was an excellent TV saga... What do you think? Nemesis sucks. Would you vote for a final Star Trek TNG movie worthy of the very good TV series?

I've always thought of it this way:

TNG, the TV series has always been widely regarded as better than TOS. In movies, though, the tables were turned. The problem was that TNG movies had more the flavor of long episodes and less of the epic, character developing strength that the first six movies had.

The breakdown:

GENERATIONS - Decent premise but not enough bang. Meant as a gap-closer between the two 'generations' and a send-off for the great Kirk. However, the first cast has very little to do and the team-up only happens at the very end! Then Kirk dies fighting an arguably second-rate villain.

FIRST CONTACT - Best execution of any TNG film but didn't move any of the characters forward. First we don't get to see the cool, new Enterprise get launched. Then the story rehashes old time travel jokes (and Trek has always been sloppy when doing time travel stories) and makes the Borg too easy to beat. Good adventure movie but it didn't work as part of a series as the TOS films did.

INSURRECTION - Better rank this as the worst TNG film. Some even rank it the worst of any Trek movie. After all, the TOS crew may have had to cope with super-silliness, a ship that didn't work, and inexpensive effects in their darkest moment...but for a story they went and met GOD! (Faker or no, that's an epic premise right there.) Movie 9, on the other hand, had a complete non-event story AND no ILM doing their effects AND had all that silliness going on.

NEMESIS - Worst, you say? How about BEST story premise? Sure the jokes were bad, the themes reused, the chase scene on the alien world silly, and the cameos labored...but in the script they finAlly began doing what they should have been doing from the start! They moved characters forward! Riker and Troi got married, Picard destroyed only 1/2 the ship (a first for Trek films) before getting a new crew, and Data died! At last we have a landmark.

AND LASTLY...

STAR TREK XI - Yes. There may yet be one more Trek movie. No. It won't be a redeemer for the TNG crew. (If you want to see them finish on a high note, get 'All Good Things' on DVD...It's the best you'll do...though seriously, rethink your opinion on Nemesis too.)

No, the new Star Trek movie will be about...Captain Kirk! According to some of the buzz, he may be played by (not making this up though it could just be a rumor) Matt Damon! That's right. They've greenlit a movie about Kirk and others in their early years.

It could be good. They've had the idea to do a young-Kirk movie since before Star Trek V got made. Back then, a lot of people were very enthusiastic about the proposed script.

It could also be bad. Word is it will bridge the gap between the Enterprise series and TOS. I, for one, would prefer to forget Enterprise existed.

I agree, the movies did kind of go out with a whimper. I didn't dislike nemesis as much as many others did, but it wasn't that great. Honestly, the plot i wish they could have forwarded would have been a combined DS9/TNG battle against the invasion thru the wormhole of the gemhadar (sp. sorry) and Odo's kin. That to me would have been interesting but DS9 was never that popular so maybe it wouldnt have pulled in an audience.

I must be the only person here who thought Nemesis was a good movie! Oh well! I would, however, be delighted to see them film another TNG movie to wind up the series.

i liked all of the TNG movies. i would only like to see another one if the original cast would be in it. noone could replace capt jean-luc picard, #1, data, troi, whorf, to name a few. it just wouldn't be the same without them.
