I have a 4.8L engine, 97 Lincoln Continental. I see water spots and or antifreeze, just had the oil checked if the head gasket is blown how long will I be able to drive it and or could it be something wrong with my fans. Oil looked black prior to having heater valve and thermostat put in. No steam coming from the tailpipe. Could it be the radiator or water pump? Car ran hot twice before having the above items put on. I also bought a motor for my fan. I tried running my air conditioner and temperature started going up. Cut air off and gauge went back down so where is the antifreeze going? Also water had been put in the coolant reservoir, I put antifreeze in after car started to get hot.

first if it over heats with ac on sounds like cooling fans not working. also if cooling fans arent working it could be boiling it out. also if it over heated there could be a number of gaskets blown, intake, head, freeze plug, heater core. get the system pressure checked.

It doesn't necessarily smoke white if it's burning coolant. It can still burn it and only smoke a tiny bit. If the head gasket is blown, it sometimes pressurizes the cooling system and the coolant leaks into the cylinder only when the engine is shut off. More so, the pressure from the cylinder going into the cooling system could damage the radiator....like blowing the tank or hoses. Truly sounds like a blown head gasket. Something caused it to get hot though. Possibly the bad fan. Is it electric? Clutch fans go bad and it will get hot with a/c on. Best of luck, sorry for your troubles. These engines are generally reliable.

Maybe you have a hole in your radiator, there are liquids, and crystals that you pour into the radiator to stop the leak. Also stop putting just water in it, there is antifreeze that is mixed with the proper amounts of both. If all else fails, get to a trusted mechanic. Hope this helps, good luck

OK if you are seeing spots under the car it's leaking out .and if it start running hot when heater or air is on probably the secondary fan not working. if you ran it hot twice it is also possible you blew the head gasket on one head.
