The only reason I wear shoes in my house is if I'm going somewhere and I remember something as I'm walking out the door. Instead of untying them, taking them off and going to get what I forgot, I just leave them on and quickly go and get what I need.
As for other people's homes...I do what they do. If they take their shoes off at the door, so do I. If they wear their shoes in their house, I do too. If they wear shoes in their house, chances are their floors/carpets are very dirty, and even though I'm more comfortable going barefoot, I'm not walking around barefoot on their dirty floor! This is especially true for people who have dogs. Ugh.

If I have a really comfortable pair of shoes I might not take them off. I will however respect the wishes of anyone regarding shoes when I enter their house. there are some families that seem to require that you wear shoes at all times and there are some families that require that you never wear your shoes in the house. I take off my shoes whenever my host does.

No, I don't wear shoes in my own house. I usually take them off at other people's houses, too, unless I'm like, moving furniture or something and I don't want to have to keep putting them on and taking them off.
It's more comfortable to wear no shoes, and it keeps the floor cleaner--like, 60 or 70 percent of house dirt comes from dirt tracked in on your shoes. Yuck! Plus, it's the idea of leaving the world outside--you come in, you shuck the shoes you wear out in the cold hard world and relax, show some respect for the household. Kinda like leaving the contagion at the threshhold. Plus, if your shoes are by the door, it's easier to find them when you want to go back out.

At home, I never wear shoes. If I am visiting a close friend, the shoes come off. If I am visiting someone I do not know well, the shoes stay on.

Oh no. Shoes AND socks come off the MINUTE I step inside my house. I leave my socks on if I am at someone else's house. I HATE wearing shoes and socks. I like my feet to breathe.

It depends. I usually only wear them if I'm either about to leave, or haven't been home long. If I'm settling in to be there awhile, I'm taking them off.
In other people's homes, I wear shoes. Unless my shoes are muddy or I'm staying there like all day or something. If my floor is real dirty I'll leave them on even at home though lol. Can't stand to get stuff on my feet!
I was just raised to think that it's rude to make yourself THAT at home at someone else's house as to take your shoes off. UNLESS they're dirty, and then it would be rude to leave them on.

We slip our shoes off just inside the front door. It prevents tracking dirt inside and reduces wear on the carpet. We don't insist visiting adults take their shoes off. However, we do ask that children do. That, of course, is if the children are visiting without adults.

I don't wear shoes inside the house. For one, my carpet is white. I also like being in socks better.
