Jesus Christ, I meant a suicide-help counselor...the kind that helps people? Maybe I should rephrase my question.

A ) get a social workers degree and do volunteer work for experience and definitely have no need of a psychiatrist or psychologist while achieving high grades.
B)Check with your local college of choice because there all different and the rate is different... guidance counselor have to scoop, they can get you testing help, tutors, if you ask for help their is no reason to fail as long as you apply yourself and make the grade and want it.
There are student loans, grants, gifts...these people if you make good enough grades in high school can get you a free education. So if this is what you think will make you happy in life the question is not what I think it what you think do you even know what a counselor is? you need one yourself and maybe with their help you can specialize as one I think they best know how to get there and are the best to get to know. know what I mean.

why not start with offering your time as a volunteer at the Samaritans that operate all over the world?
you would be on call during your allotted time to be available to anyone who feels the need to call up not just the suicidal plus you get a lot of training beforehand

I know an alcohol abuse councelor. He's a guy who used to get really drunk. I guess experience is needed to become one.

Well you have to learn all the ways to tell them how to properly do it so they don't have to keep calling back.
