My step sons mother is what you would call a deadbeat. She is currently 23,000 behind on support and when my husband and I went for enforcement she claimed disability and was excused from paying any further support. (SHE IS NOT DISABLED!) I understand the child is eligable for payment under her. Can we contact the SS office and have that payment sent here because he lives with us? His medical bills and school clothes and things have always been taken care of but it sure would be nice to have some help from her since she is half responsible for him.

Not only can you be appointed the representative payee for the child but you can also (in my state of New York, at least) get child support from the mother's SSI money.

The only things you'll need for the Social Security people are the child's birth certificate, the mother's SS number and the Order granting you custody. You can do it at the window. It should take an inordinately long time and a lot of repeat trips but it can be done.

Good luck.

I have sole and legal custody of my daughter and her father is on SSI and SSD in the state of NY, the county where I live in (child support unit) took him to court and I only get $ 25 dollars a month, he was in jail for 1 yr before that and still recieved $ from them(which he was not supposed to) and had his mother buy him a van w/ it while in jail but did NOT pay anything for his child, the courts did not make him pay back support, just $25 dollars a month from now until she's 18, WHOPPEE TO DO!! Good Luck, you'll need it!!

It must depend on the state. I've heard about it in Illinois but not in Michigan. Are you sure that this is SSI as opposed to SSDI? Under SSDI, children are entitled to dependent payments and child support if it is ordered by the court. You should check with SSA and in most states the Freind of the court may be able to help even if you are not on Public Assist. My daughter just went thru a custody fight with her ex. While he had the kids, she paid $3000 in support. He is on SSI for his mental condition and does not pay any support in Mi.

you in basic terms get the SSI money for the little ones in the event that they're residing with the disabled discern Or if there's a newborn help order in place that takes SSI into attention. yet no, the different discern does not could desire to provide you the full SSI examine for the newborn. in basic terms what grew to become into ordered. reason being is even inspite of the incontrovertible fact that they are noncustodial it is deemed by ability of the government that they want a bigger place so while the newborn visits they have some place to sleep. so which you're caught with the smaller volume. needless to say you ought to continually bypass to court docket and plead your case and probably get it upped.
