Abrieva is great and is quick...You can buy it over the counter...but when you say "from home" I am guessing you don't want to get out....with that said, keep it moist with lip balm and do not lick it or bite it....when the cold sore is gone make sure to throw the lip balm away...because you could get it back by using it. the best thing I've found is an over-the-counter remedy called "Blistex". Medicated and soothes the pain. Works very well and inexpensive.

this may sound a little gross but if you take ear wax and hopefully your own put it on the sore it should help a friend of mine did it and in a few days it was gone so wax on hope it helps

Stop sticking your fingers in your mouth - wait that was my dad's remedy!
Any mouth wash with alcohol in it tends to help me, they used to have this red stuff - it worked miracles - but they took it off the market because it caused cancer or something... isn't that always the way...
