people claim to love a band soooo much... but want to rip them off by downloading their music free instead of helping them succeed by paying for their hard work by actually BUYING THEIR RECORDINGS AND VIDEOS??? Do you think all the studio and recording time, effort writing and/or finding songs, touring and such is FREE for them? Such supportive fans you are!

Laurie... touche... I USED to be in a band, now I work as a mortgage broker and do some studio work from time to time. I play drums, bass and alto and tenor sax. But even without that tidbit, I find it pathetic that people nowadays think talent should be free.

Yeah, I agree.

I'm not going to lie and say that I don't download music- but when I do so, it's usually a single song from an older band, which I can't get that one song from unless I buy their entire album.

If I have no interest in any of their other music then I'm not going to go to a c.d shop and pay 20-30bucks for what is practically equal to a single.

But usually I wait a while with artists- if they release a few songs I'm interested in, I usually go to their website, preview the rest of their album and make a decision based on that... I have too many crappy c.d's in my collection which I bought based on the success of 1 song, I'm not making that same mistake again- I want every album I purchase to be worth my while.

Well, most band will tell you that the real money comes in touring and tshirt sales. The record companies are the ones that take the hit on downloads. They pay the band x amount to produce the cd and the recording company gets the profits from the cd.

I love certain bands, but I beleive that the music industry has become to capitalist and industrial and less about music. Seventeen dollars for a shiny peice of plastic is sometimes too much to pay to enjoy ten songs. I appreciate what iTunes and Connect have done to lower proces and make it more affordable, but, in my state of lowered income, sometimes that can even be a drag.

well i support buyuign music, but i download songs ocasionally, i usually end up buying it all eventually, but for the moment i can download a song and stick it on my mp3 player, and besides, its somewhat hard to support the beatles the doors and nirvana, hell even janis joplin cant collect on the money i use to buy her albums, its a record label conspiracy and moinstream artists have been enslaved willing or not!

i think that artists who are really into making their music dont rally care whether or not someone less fortunate than others downloads their stuff when they cant afford to buy it. on the other hand, i do believe that those of us who can afford to buy albums should, which is why i always purchase my fav bands records.

LOL!! Seriously, REAL fans would buy the album, they wouldn't pick and choose songs online and steal from their "favorite" bands.
