Although I'm not a Buddhist, I like a lot of its philosophy. Buddhism says that the source of all unhappiness is desire; the desire for more money, status, etc. Desire is a product of ego. Therefore happiness is the absence of desire, to go beyond ego, to nirvana. And therefore without desire you can only live in the NOW. You don't dwell on the past and what might of been nor do you look to the future (usually you are desiring something). Of course to do all this is not easy - thus the emphais on meditation, self-discipline, etc. I think Christianity kind of goes in this direction of living in the present when Jesus says not to worry about tomorrow and one of the Pslams talks about 'our daily bread' - not tomorrow's bread. I think you don't have to be a Buddhist or a Christian to know that there's a lot of truth in this. Most people are running around - trying to get ahead - that they have never actually live where are they are at any moment in time. It's always 'I'll be happy when I get that job, that promotion, that guy or girl, that car,'etc etc. But, as the song says, tomorrow never comes..
