Put him in a giant maze and put a cheese burger at the finishing line and compare the performance against your neighbor's kid.

Try candy or buttered popcorn instead of burger for variety!

This one is a little on the big brother side but is still fun or I thought it was. I made a very large one to charge car batteries.

You are making an electric generator. And it will cost you a little money. Not much..

You need to buy 4 magnets from Radio shack. They will be about 1.5 inches long and about 3/4 inches wide. About 1/4th inches thick. Glue these on a pc of metal or really anything that is round. You will need to put a hole through the middle and a bolt or all thread to be used to spin the thing like a top. Build a wood frame with a ply wood top and bottom or thick card board. While you are at Radio shack buy some magnet wire. rap about 100 rounds around the outside of one of each magnet. Remove it from the magnet (do this before you glue it to the round thing) and glue the wire spools to the bottom of the frame where when you spin the rotor you made with the magnets over it they are under the magnets. Tie the inside wire of each spool to the out of the next spool of wire. The last two ends should be wired to an LED diode that you can get from radio shack as well. you will need to put a washer and nut on the bottom to hold the rotor off the spools of wire so you can spin it. you will see the LED light up.. I will attach a site to give you a better idea of what I am talking about.

I built mine with 48 magnets and a 6 foot tall wind turbine. It would light up a strobe of lights and or charge a car battery. But there is a lot more to the one I built then this simple verion.

The site I posted will give you free plans and if you want you can buy parts from them.

Have fun..

Make a volcano.

Shape some modeling clay into a volcano. Leave a crater in the center about the size of a baby food jar. Make sure that it is water tight, (you could simply build a volcano shape our of clay around a jar) Put about 4 T of baking soda in the crater, then top it off with vinegar. There will be a harmless chemical reaction, creating lots of fizzy foam. It will look like an erupting volcano!

You should do this outside or in a bathtub. The reaction creates salt water and carbon dioxide when the acid in the vinegar combines with the base in the baking soda. My kids love this!

You can make a toy to demonstrate chaos using magnets.

get a metal plate and make a frame over it to suspend a pendulum.

Put a magnet on the end of the pendulum. Put 3 or 4 magnets on the plate so that they repel the magnet on the pendulum.

The objective is to try and release the pendulum in a way that makes the pendulum travel the same path twice. Because very small variation in the release of the pendulum will create large variation in the path, the resulting path is considered chaotic.
