Marvel did a "funny animal" version of Spider Man, based on that very premise. It was called the 'Mazing Man-Spider! and he had the strength of a (gasp!) human bean! Who, in his secret identity as Webster Weaver was a (underpaid) photographer for a great metropolitan newspaper! You get the idea. It was worth a chuckle.

I always wondered if I could reproduce the accident that gave Peter Parker his spider powers, but when I subjected a spider to a blast of radiation and let it bite me, nothing happened. Well, the bite has swollen up really big and it's tender, and I have some kind of fever now, but I'm sure that didn't have anything to do with it. It was almost a week ago now, and I'm nauseous all the time, and I can't seem to sleep. There's a funny whitish discharge coming from the bite, I wonder if that is some kind of web fluid? I can't stick to walls yet, though. I don't think I could climb very high. I can hardly get up, I'm so dizzy. I can't wait to see what kind of powers I develop....

I think Kraven ate him, along with like a million of his family members, at the beginning of 'Kraven's Last Hunt'.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure about that. I mean, he did eat a lot of spiders. Odds are Parker's was in the bunch, which probably only worsened the big galoot's mental state before he swallowed some lead.

No that spider died. When it gave Peter its powers, it was drained out and died.
