I've read all of Hornby's novels and loved Haddon's "The Curious Incident..."
If you liked High Fidelity you might like Jonothan Franzen's "The Corrections," as it has a similar theme.
And, while it's certainly not the same sort of book, "Bangkok 8," by John Burdett is similar to "The Curious Incident..." in that the narrator is dealing with a world that is familiar, but alien at the same time.

Try "Motherless Brooklyn" or other works by Jonathan Lethem. "Motherless Brooklyn" has in common with "Curious Incident" that it has a young narrator with a very particular point of view and has social problems due to disability, in his case Tourette's. Both are in some senses mysteries that are more interesting as character portraits, and social portraits, than as mysteries.
I also recommend "Cloud Atlas" by Stephen Mitchell. It is written in a variety of styles, involving a series of interlocking narratives, connected by theme, a continuous timeline, and a few details -- but otherwise being distinct stories told in a variety of genres, from seafaring romance, to a Henry James like story set in 1920s Europe, to modern detective thriller a la Sue Grafton, to futuristic sci fi. The book is fascinating and it's themes reward careful thought, but the prose is delightful and not difficult. His new book, "Black Swan Green" is another with a young narrator, 13 years old, and it is a beautiful, if less flashy, book.
For another funny book, try "Absurdistan" a new novel which has some similarities to "Everything is Illuminated."

May I suggest anything by T Corraghessen Boyle?
I specially liked his Wellsville. I also read a book on hippies in a commune in California who moved to Alaska to be pioneers, and failed utterly. Fascinating read.
