Any tips for urine retention?

I was recently diagnosed with herpes, and had a UTI. I have been on antibiotics for quite a few days now. However, I am experiencing urine retention. I feel like I have to pee, but I can't. It gets to the point where I have to run to the ER so they can put a catheter in me. Do any of you have any "home remedies" or tips to relive urine retention until this antibiotic starts to fully work? Thanks

If you can not urinate, you need to be diagnosed, not just get catheterized. Either you have herniated something in the urinary tract preventing flow, or you have a genital wart from the herpes in the urethra, yes it can happen, preventing proper flow.

This is a very interesting question.

I think about 1 year ago I picked up a nasty virus, maybe varicella. But not conventional...it was in my hands and feet.
The doctors were too lazy to diagnose it, but Im sure it was some virus.

Anyway, these viruses have a nasty tendency to hammer the liver and kidneys. If its herpes only, no anti-biotic will work. unfortunately.

There are various natural remedies for water retention like Dandelion Root.You might want to give that a try.

One other solution to get fluid out is exercise. It will come out through your sweat.

I doubt most doctors like to prescribe diuretics for this purpose.

Urinary retention is usually a problem for males - so I'm guessing the prostate may be inflamed. I do not know what helps men, but women find great benefit from drinking cranberry juice. A more concentrated form of the stuff from cranberry juice can be found at the heatlh food store and is called CranActin.
