Yes nerves cause that and so does eye strain.

It can be stress related. Have you been using your eyes a lot, reading more than usual lately, perhaps in poor light? That can also be the cause.

There is a nerve being innervated for some reason.. usually indicates some inflamitory process involving the nerve.
