I am an Aussie, & visited both Chicago & New York and others, I found New York a fantastic place, I never felt uncomfortable or threatened in any way even whilst walking down back alleys @ 2am ... lots & i mean LOTS of people everywhere still out & about @ that time as well... I walked all 5 boroughs, & the only one I felt a bit uncomfortable in was the Bronx.... it seemed the further in I went ... the whiter I got.... & i was getting some peculiar looks... the only other thing I found was ... preferably do not go Central Pk @ night... great during daylight, but nites are for the drug dealers..etc. I didn't mind Chicago, but felt a bit intimidated by the people there

I like Chicago over New York.
They are both fascinating cities to be sure.
I would agree that Chicago is so much cleaner than NYC. It is easier to get around in. It is less expensive. It has great archetecture; art; museums; sports; shopping; diversity.
Lake Michigan is beautiful and you can actually do things out on the lake.
NYC is Chicago times ten. It has more of anything and everything that Chicago has -- but for me, more doesn't make it better.

Chicago is IMMACULATELY clean, relatively safe, and pretty easy to get around. It has great restaurants and is represented by just about every ethnic group under the sun. New York has the same diversity but it's filthy, it smells, and you need to hide your watch and wallet. It DOES have Peter Luger's and Lombardi's. Draw your own conclusions.

Chicago hands down. Easier to drive in, famous people, lots of free stuff to do and it smells better. Also, you can see the water. NY maybe right on the Atlantic Ocean, but it all looks sooo dirty.

In my opinion, Chicago is the best city, no questions asked. The only problem I see in it are the a few homeless people, and you get them everywhere.

Chicago is the Best City.
Has anything you want... from music to food, from sailing to biking, from Theatre to Shopping... You want it, it's here.
The finest architecure is here. The best stories that you'll hear,
The easiest place to get around.
The people are sooo much nicer than in NY.
