We've been dating since May. I would like the gift to be practical and it would be nice to give him something romantic as well but I don't want to seem too cheesy...

if he is a man, you don't get him a game, your not shopping for a kid, If you're his other half (wife), the second gift is, you dressed in something sex, on a Friday or Saturday night, serving him steak and lobster, with a nice cold beer, followed with a foot and back rub. Then wash him down real good in the tube, (what you do behind those doors is your secret, but don't do it like I like it), then dry him off, dress him in a bath robe, serve me a drink (My favorite) talk to me good, tell him the things you like about him and how you are so lucky to have him in your life.

The first gift is something he has spoke of but never got around to getting it for himself, this could be several gifts and let him know the best is yet to come. ----- for the love of good times, please don't tell him about me, and you will be okay, till we meet again

Spouse, your love and a special romantic night on the town.

Good friend, some part of the above of the romantic night on the town. I just went out with my wife on a 3 hour cruise (Spirit of Philadelphia) and had a great time. For just a little more you can get the special 'romantics' package.

Friend, depends on the guy

Uhhh.....I think it depends on rather this man is a family member or a friend or a lover! You can't put them all in the same category. You got to split it up a little bit or this question's answers can get a little weird! If you know what I mean! But just to be safe I would say buy him a new bottle of his favorite cologne! Not just buy any cologne either, make sure it is his favorite!

X-box 360 ....

on 2nd thought:
Get him a used Nintendo Entertainment System with Final Fantasy I

- It will remind him of his wasted youth spent playing Nintendo. Some of the best days he has known.

Man, do I wish I had that.

I would give a birthday card that makes wise cracks about his age. It would put in words what he's probably thinking:It's all downhill from here.
