You could have a hole in your exhaust or the extension pipe (pipe that connects Cad Converter to the muffler).
Next time you get your oil changed, have them take a look. They should be able to see if there is a problem for no charge.
If it is a 97 and you have never had the exhaust changed, it is probably about time for it to go.

Is your "Check Engine Light" on? Are you using more than normal fuel? You could have developed a fuel leak somewhere in the car, but without looking at it is impossible to tell where.
Check the fuel cap, and be sure it is secure.
Your car has a computer routine that checks the fuel system for leaks. It is called the "EVAP MONITOR". But you have to drive your car under a prescribed set of circumstances before that monitor can run. If you only drive your little car around town, and never get out on the freeway for a period of time, that monitor will never run.
A reputable shop, licensed to perform emissions tests and repairs can check that for you, and provide an estimate for repairs.
BTW---you DON'T smoke do you???

My car did that too in my 90 Bonneville it was because it was leaking gas. We put a new gas line on it and fixed the holes in the gas tank and it stopped. Next time you smell it get out and look under your car to see if it's dripping.

Check all of your rubber fuel lines to be sure they aren't leaking. Unleaded fuel fumes tend to dry the rubber out it will crack and rot. Very dangerous situation here....don't want a fire. Get this fixed NOW....good luck.

It is imperative that you quit using your car. You have a potentially explosive situation in you hands. Have it checked by a mech ASAP.
