I work at Borders, and I've found that a lot of the 10-11 year olds really like scifi/fantasy books like Susan Cooper, Lloyd Alexander, Christopher Paolini, Charles de Lint. Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson are currently writing a pre-Peter Pan series that starts with Peter and the Starcatchers. As for just more normal fiction, check out Louis Sachar (he's a fav), the book Frindle, E.L. Konigsburg, Beverly Clearly, Carl Hiassan (or Hiasaan...something like that). You can email me if you need more! =)

One good book for kids about that age is 'The Call of the Wild' by Jack London. It's an old one but it gets kids (especially boys) interested in reading because it's so exciting.

I LOVED Babysitters club and Boxcar Children when I was 10-ish.
If you go to the library to the children;s section, there's usually a sub-section called "Juvenile" for kids 9-13 ish, depending on their reading level.
Keep the classics alive, if you can. the books mentioned above are awesome- just keep in mind reading level and interests.

King Fortis the Brave is perfect for that age range. About a pair of 12-year-old twins that are brought to a magical realm where they find themselves caught in a battle for control of the land. It's full of humor and action that ten and eleven-year-olds will love.
