Have you ever had an experience---in a hospital, clinic, home setting, ANYwhere---where a nurse was really exceptional?

(I think we all mean well; some don't show it so much in certain areas. Some are more clinical than compassionate; & vice versa...)

Anyway, what made that particular one stand out from the other health care staff?

I've actually had two nurse that I will absolutely NEVER forget. In November of 2003, I was rushed into emergency surgery to have my appendix out, but I was five months pregnant, so of course it posted a danger to my baby. I had this nurse that was so wonderful. She sat with me and my husband while I cried, she was there as I went into surgery, and there when I came out. She sat with us all night when she didn't have to tend to other patients, and sent flowers to me after I went home.
When I did have my daughter four months later, it was a planned c-section. She wasn't my first child, and she wasn't my first c-section, but I had such a horrible pregnancy, very ill through the whole thing, and they were taking her three weeks early, (She still weighed nearly 10 pounds!) I was just sobbing because I was scared about the baby's health They were trying to give me the spinal block, and I remember this nurse leaned down in front of me and not only wiped my tears, but held my hands and just kept telling everything would be ok. She made an impact on me that she'll probably never realize.
Both of these nurses were Navy nurses, and this took place at the Naval Hospital Pensacola.

Yes my aunt is a nurse so it was a home experience. My son, who was only 6 weeks old, was really sick but I was really far from home (like 1000 miles) so my insurance wouldn't cover him there. I was really worried because I was a first time mom and my son was so young but she knew exactly what to do, it was so natural. She was able to break his fever, and stop him from crying. I felt so good, she was so compassionate but at the same time knew what regiment to give him, by alternating different types of medicine .

i love the physician that my family and i go to. she is very good with children and she also sits and talks to you about anything that concerns you. in a time where drs think of you as just a dollar sign it's nice to know that there are people who care for you as a person

Yes. I was at the oral surgeons and was starting to have a panic attack right in the chair. She actually reached out to hold my hand and helped me breathe thru it. It was very comforting.
