Tattoos, body art, what ever you call it! I know it is popular and excepted today, but in 30 years will that tattoo be sexy or just ugly? What can you buy now that you will still like when you are 60? Personally, I am glad I didn't get any tattoos as a kid. I'm 54 now, and that peace sign, or unit tatt just wouldn't be the same now!
I guess the good thing is so many people are getting them, it won't be uncommon in 30 years for a bunch of out of shape gray hair grand parents to have tatts!

The coolest tattoo I saw a mother get in honor of her children was a rearview mirror with her eyes in it as if she was looking at them in the backseat. Hanging from the rearview mirror was a pair of red fuzzy dice with her childrens ages in the (3 & 5) and I thought that was awesome.
Not sure what to do with 4 children... but think of something that means something to you and run with it.

you could try designing a symbol that uses all of their zodiac signs, or perhaps a scenery tat involving different aspects of them?
my sister is a hippie, and her kids are named meadow and river. her husband has a tattoo of a river running through a meadow on his back.. it's actually really nice, and it isn't over the top at all.

i like the 4 leaf clover idea someone mentioned. you could put a symbol that relates to their personalities on each leaf, maybe.

Something like a plus sign, with some designation for each of them at the corners.. last two numerals of birth years or something like that.

I would take the colour of their birthstones and use them as colours for the tattoo. Or have the tattoo artist design something that encrypts their initials into a symbol - talk to the shop that you trust - they will have tonnes of ideas for you!

Use their horoscope symbols. a symbolic picture of where they where born. like the city crest. a rose with different blossoms representing your kids. elements or fire, water, wind, earth,... or something of that nature and designate one to each child according to their Chinese horoscope (they use elements according to witch month you are born). ....there are so many cool thing you could do.
just look at your kids and do what you feel suits them best.

What a clever way to mask selfishness. Just admit that YOU want the tattoos, they're not FOR your children, they're for you. I seriously doubt any of your kids asked you to show your devotion as a parent by ritualistic scarification of your body. Ask any kid what they would rather have: A devoted, loving parent or pinup of the week in Easyriders.
