We are all individuals with his own personatity
and genetic make up. We are all different . no two individuals are the same even among identical or fraternal twins. This accounts for each person's uniqueness. Otherwise if
everybody is the same it'd be one boring world.
Whereas intelligence or the lack of it varies from person to person. A person's intelligence might be acutely developed by several factors such as education, stable environment or good nutrition during the developmental years. And some just has inate intelligence or born with it.
So the degree of the intelligence can not be the same for all individuals neither would there be a an intellectual comon ground. Maybe what you mean is a common understanding, ideas or sense of values as indexes for the acceptable norm or the average joe. In other words, what's average or normal for one person might
be totally different for another person.
Consider this instance, a set of identical twins separated at birth. One had a good upbringing
stable family life and had the advantages of a good schooling.in private schools. The other went to a poor family, exposed to domestic
violence, and wasn't given the advantage of a good education. Given these variable environmental factors. Can you conceive that the first one becomes more inteligent than the other one? Of course as he was fortunate to be given more opportunities. That's when you ponder why is life so unfair?

There is no need for "intellectual common ground": by definition it would be badly soiled with cowdung. SInce humankind is a communicative being there will be plenty of common ground, and no reason to fool ourselves by calling it "intellectual". True intellect is seen in the insight of individuals (again, by definition) and so we can be suspicious if there is much overlap with the intellect of others.

We are all equally deserving of life, love, food, shelter and respect, but have different physical and mental abilities. The road to intellectual common ground is to recognise the former and look for the best of the latter in each other, rather than taking advantage of the weakness of others.

Our intellectual common ground lies in our belief in the utility of technology.
Osama Bin Laden and George W. Bush both have faith in technology - as do we all. They both believe, for example, that flying machines work for them quite impartially, no matter what their aims in using them may be and no matter what other beliefs they may have.
Two enemy cultures, no matter how deep their other differences, will tend to converge in the technology they use.
Ultimately and logically, our belief in technology is our belief in what logicians call 'induction by enumeration'. Basically, this is the belief that what has invariably been so in the past will invariably be so in the future. Of course, such belief never amounts to certainty.

Bloody hell...now your asking..erm....Intellectualism, to me, means freedom of thought...so if you can distinguish your own standpoint from the mass media or the common-held view, and to what degree, is whether your an intellectual or not...Intellectualism is indistinguishable from individualism...
mrycoffeetea sums it up.. your so right..

In our free will in relation to each other. In our fear of the unknown and that fear should be of the one whom created us.
