Yes, the term "Walk the Line" came from a Johnny Cash song. You've heard the phrase, you're walking on a thin line, or walking the straight line. A line is straight. It can't ever bend. But it can go in different directions. Usually the term means taking the correct path of life.

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the line

I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I'll admit that I'm a fool for you
Because you're mine, I walk the line

As sure as night is dark and day is light
I keep you on my mind both day and night
And happiness I've known proves that it's right
Because you're mine, I walk the line

You've got a way to keep me on your side
You give me cause for love that I can't hide
For you I know I'd even try to turn the tide
Because you're mine, I walk the line

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the line

Doing the right thing. In the Johnny Cash song, he was referring to staying faithful to the woman he loved:

Lyrics
I Walk The Line
Johnny Cash

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the line

I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I'll admit that I'm a fool for you
Because you're mine, I walk the line

As sure as night is dark and day is light
I keep you on my mind both day and night
And happiness I've known proves that it's right
Because you're mine, I walk the line

You've got a way to keep me on your side
You give me cause for love that I can't hide

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds

It's from a Johnny Cash song (although that's based on a saying). To say that you're walking the line is like saying you're walking the straight and narrow path.

Of course it also refers to a test given to drunk drivers when they get pulled over. They must "walk the line" (usually the yellow or white line painted on the street) to prove that they are not intoxicated.
The Johnny Cash song "I'll Walk the Line" was written in tribute to his wife, as a way of proving his dedication to her, by staying sober and being able to "walk the line".
At one point, when he was first courting her, she had turned him down and he and his buddies engaged in drugs and alcohol and she told several people that they could not "walk the line."

When they stop you for drunk driving they ask you to walk in a straight line. If you can "walk the line" then you are sober.

Johnny Cash had a drinking problem.

It comes from military or prison usage where lines are painted on the path and one has to "walk the line". It means "stay in line", "don't stray", do the "right" thing, or "follow orders".

i've seen the movie and i think that the meaning is more comlicated...walk the line like the acrobats,u are ready to fall but u keep balance until u finally lose control and fall...risking...reaching the edge...in the movie like johny cash was addicted to drugs and drink, until he finally lost the control of his life and did lost everything that he has created before.

It's a thin line and we must walk in faith. I think that was June's intention when she said it. She's walking on the side of faith, Johnny was walking on the side of sin and drugs.
