It's probably hard to learn from your own fatal mistakes, but someone learns something from it eventually. Sometimes I feel like saying "We learn from our mistakes" is a way of making up an excuse. Especially when what the mistakes teach you are common sense that you should have known anyway. What do you think?

I do believe that because, I'm a Mechanic. If you Make a Mistake on a Vehicle, you do learn from it. Lots of jobs are like that, if you make that mistake you'll learn from it. Some times it's not just common sense, sometimes you should learn first, before you do things. Well I think learning from our mistakes is just another way to say, I won't do that again! That is What I think!

This is no joke, but if you look at about one in three Yahoo Answer questions, you will see prime example of people who do not learn from neither their or other's mistakes.

The Bible gives all answers

The Bible is a lie

Muslims suck

Jews suck

Athiests suck

Christians suck

And yet, the same questions and responses go on, and when someone complains, someone else claims the debate is being squelched.

What debate? Circular arguments do not make a debate.

By the way. I don't beleive in common sense. So called common sense is what people are taught, or learned by making mistakes.

Common sense tells us that: (insert the list from above.

Mistakes are only excusable with the " we always learn from our mistakes " ( and this is a big fat excuse ), on occasion. Consistent abuse of mistake making is a true sign of stupidity and should be deemed unacceptable by all parties. Making a mistake shows a lack of sense, whether it be common or not, and although everyone makes mistakes the goal is to keep them to a minimal and when they do occur, say " Wow that was dumb! "

I have to agree, mostly. I was just thinking of something similar to this today. I have a habit, sometimes, of driving a bit too fast for my truck and it's brakes. Last week I was following this other truck real fast, like we were racing. He changed lanes, and right in front of me was this car stopped, trying to turn left. I knew I couldn't stop in time, but luckily there wasn't anyone in the other lane. I didn't know it at first and tried to stop. My truck went sideways a bit, but I have a little experience at driving, so I went to the side of the car, missing it by inches. I got around it and back into the lane I needed to be in to turn left, but my heart was pumping, and I felt like an idiot.

My truck isn't the fastest thing around, but it does pick up speed swiftly, and a couple of years ago I hit a guy in the back, not hard, but enough to mess up my front bumper. I assumed we were going thru a green arrow, and I didn't realize it, but an oncoming truck turning the opposite way made the people up front stop. I couldn't stop in time. Going too fast and assuming too much.

I've learned from some of my mistakes, but I think in some ways you are right. I try not to make excuses, though. I feel very bad if I make a mistake, and usually torture myself more than anyone else could punish me. But I guess it's one of those problems that I have. Good question, very thoughtful. I wish more questions on Yahoo Questions/Answers were like this.

I think we always learn from our mistakes, but we don't always react to them like we know we should. I guess this describes how bad habits are made and enforced.

To end on a good note, we can break habits by just doing what we know is right, without hesitation.

I hope I could be of service.

Some people never learn from their mistakes and some people do.
Some people are doomed to making the same mistakes over and over again and some people learn from seeing others mistakes.
It takes all kinds to make up this wonderfully funny world we live in.
So sit back and enjoy the view.

Some learn early, some learn late, some never at all. Learning from mistakes is called wisdom, and few possess it. I'm still hoping I learn late.

Most people don't learn from romantic relationship mistakes. They pick and stay with the same type over and over even though it doesn't work for them.

The mistake from which we learn the least is not learning from our mistakes. May God bless and keep you.

I think you should be asking Micheal Jackson if he's learned from his mistakes yet!

Serioulsy though, you would think that we would all learn from our mistakes, but apparently there are plenty of people that don't. Most of them are in prison right now.
