I have never spent any time in th airport there but I know any other airport in the USA is pretty high. I have been around New Orleans and I thought the prices on everything was high. Rooms was way out of line.

You can make it down to the Quarter for food and drinks in three hours, but you might be trying your luck. If you try it, eat at The Bourbon House. It is at the corner of Bourbon & Iberville (1st block off Canal). They have (duh!) seafood and it is excellent. You can get drinks anywhere in the quarter, but I would avoid the strong/sweet types as they will help you forget about your flight.
Good luck and have fun!
