Interesting question: When I was living in New Jersey The statewide newspaper "The Star Ledger" on the editorial page with guest reporters printed a column by a syndicated reporter who stated that a documented was floating around the national archives that indicated that the mother of President Dwight Eisenhower was a black woman from Virginia and held the same thing in common with Ludwig Beethoven whose mother was also black.
Remember before George Bush was endorsed by the Republicans. He was only their choice because they couldnt get Colin Powell to run. Powell's wife put a no-no on that.

We will have them the day one of them is truly more qualified than any other candidate. Tokenism may be forced by EEOC on corporations, but the voters will never vote the presidency to anyone just to satisfy the token lovers. Nor should they.

Note to the especially ignorant. We had two disabled presidents. Check your facts. FDR and JFK.

We will have a woman president the day a truly qualified woman runs, and is willing to take the abuse from the press. Hillary is nuts, just today a survey in New Hampshire showed that not only Republicans think so, in that state, but also 45% of the Democrats.

An example of a truly qualified woman is England's Margaret Thatcher. There was no "Oh, us poor, poor dearies! We are so helpless and fragile, and need all sorts of special laws to protect us from bigger and smarter men, but we are also exactly equal or maybe superior to men and I will represent only women." like the female candidates in the past. She made it clear she represented all of England, and she stood her ground against all political opponents without once saying, "Oh, boohoo! You are picking on me because I'm a dearie."

I personally would have voted for Colin Powell, and I would vote for Condi, but she is too smart to take the abuse of running for the job.

Not anytime soon. This isn't because minorities are incompetent or anything, it's merely because a certain portion of the electorate is willfully ignorant when it comes to racism.

Our nation has gotten to used to White "christian" Males in the White House to allow any kind of change. Many people in our country that block this kind of change are conservative, and considering all that I have mentioned here, look at the definition of conservative for a second.

"Favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change"

Maybe if Liberals were in the overall majority, then we would possibly see such a thing.

Liberal: "Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded."

Honestly, I don't care what the race, religion or gender is, just as long as that person has what it takes to do the job right. Unfortunately, not everyone agrees here, not even everyone that verbally claims to agree.

Yes, I do believe it will eventually happen. I wish it would be in my generation, but sadly I do not believe it will be. Rest assured that that candidate will make a superior president. After all, it will take a superior candidate to rise above the prejudices that are preventing a person of "another race" to be elected...

As far as I am concerned, there is one race... the HUMAN race.

As for Disabled, Franklin Roosevelt was in a wheelchair for the end of his term in office, bue is he elected if he had to be on television? I doubt it.

I really think that Obama from Illinois has a shot in 6 years. He will lose the south ,but can carry NY Cali and Ohio and Penn plus the other normal states that pay the taxes for the red states welfare checks. Not this Election however , we will have a 90 year old McCain

not sure. I know today on a news clip, the nut case congresswoman (you know, the one who hit the security guys) from GA is being offered protection by the "new black panthers". I dont think I could want a racist like her in office.

We have had disabled already. Condi Rice could make a good case, but she would be destroyed by blacks who consider her an uncle tom and too white, because she is educated and speaks well.

Still have to have a candidate with the right platform, whatever the nationality/gender. Geraldine Ferraro wasn't it. Libby Dole wasn't it. Hillary SURE AS HELL won't be it. But people have been beggin Colin Powell to run since he finished up with the Gulf War. Thing is, he's too smart to do it.
I think race and gender have less to do with it than the people who really make a fuss about it think.

I think so... and maybe soon. If it was Condalisa Rice then it would be a black woman. She would be the first for both!
And to the first guy, my family is the most redneck in Texas I have ever seen... what does that have to do with anything?

They've elected a donkey this time, so why not another non-European white race or minority next time or do you think they'll look for a mule to elect?
