I don't, and I'll tell you why.
People complain that the money athletes make destroys the integrity of the game. I argue that it's the only way to keep the integrity of the game.
First of all, Sports is a huge huge business. The reason for this is the athletes. If they didn't make all that money, the owners would keep all of it. And wouldn't we all really rather have it go to the athletes?
Secondly, Sports gambling is a huge huge business. If athletes were paid like regular people, can't you see how easy it would be for them to be paid to tank big games? Nobody wants to see that. the only way to avoid it is to have rich people out there playing.

If you compare what any professional athlete is paid compared to what other jobs pay in society at large -- i.e, teachers, nurses, etc. - it will drive you crazy. From that perspective, they are extremely overpaid.
From the perspective of supply and demand, and what the owners are making, this becomes a more complex question. Now, even from this standpoint, some athletes are overpaid, some seem to be paid fairly (and some are even underpaid).
Generally, I try to just compare athletes' salaries to one another .Otherwise, I'd go crazy comparing theirs to my own)....My other hope is that - regardless of how "overpaid" a ballplayer may be, you hope that he has some sense of how fortunate he is, and is also appreciative of the true fans.

Supply and demand dictate the salaries of most of us. Athletes, because there ar so few of them who are outstanding, command huge salaries. Right now, they are out of sight, and some kind of control has to be imposed before they price themselves out of the game altogether. Tickets to baseball games are now so high, the average family cannot afford to go to a game. I used to take my son often and sit in reserved grandstand. Today, I cannot afford to take myself, never mind my son. It's a shame, but salaries are driving prices out of reach.
