Wear sunblock all the time and maybe a big floppy hat. As you watch your mother die horribly from melanoma, thank me for following my advice. If you must have tan, get one from a bottle.
Tans kill.

First of all, tell the people who are teasing you to screw off or something. Your skin tone is genetic, and it's not your fault. Also, tanning can cause skin cancer, especially so if you're fair. If they really want you to take that risk, then they're not very nice people.
Many fair people simply don't tan. I'm guessing your problem is that you burn, peel, and then just turn white again. If that's the case, then there's not much you can do to get a real tan. Trying is just going to damage your skin and give you freckles and wrinkles, and you probably don't want that.
If you want to try a fake tan, here's what I'd suggest. I use Coppertone's sunless tanner- it turns out less orange than Neutrogena or other brands. I put it on either right when I get out of the shower (when my skin is still wet), or I dilute it with water before I put it on. By diluting it, it not only spreads more evenly, but it also makes the color more gradual and more sheer and natural looking. Try doing it twice a week until you gradually reach the tone you want. Another option is to try one of the new moisturizers that contains a small amount of sunless tanner. I believe Jergens has a product called Natural Glow that does this.
When you do go out in the sun, make sure to wear a sunscreen. As fair as you are, you'll probably need at least an SPF 30, or an SPF 50 on high ozone/high UV days or if you live at a high altitude. This will prevent sun damage and skin cancer.

I have natural beige toned skin that tans easily without burning (unless I stay out too long with no sunscreen), but I do not risk my good skin to the dangers of melanoma (skin cancer) or premature aging. I use the over-the-counter sunless tanning lotions or foams and they work fine for me. Neutrogena has good ones, so does BananaBoat. You have to experiment a little, as some cheap brands will give you an orangey tone and that's no good. I think they're great because I can get it the shade I want by using it more or less often and I don't have to lay there baking in the sun. You'll always suffer from sunburns and red skin if you have very fair skin, it's just a fact. You should give it a try. However, I think it's rather rude of your mother to tease you about this. My sister is dark skinned and her daughter is very fair and she'd never make fun of her that way. Fair skin is just as beautiful.

I use to be really white and fair skinned also until I started applying Banana Boat Protective Tanning oil with spf 8. This stuff keeps the burn away and lets me tan. I got it at Walmart for $6.00. It comes in an orange and brown spray bottle. I put it on 15 minutes before sun exposure then I lay out for an hour. Good luck!

OK i totally know wut your talking about i work at a tanning salon and i see ppl like this all the time OK. ... wut i say 4 you is first off if you wanna tann out side make shure you dont stay out to long and try an tanning exclartator ( a tanning loation make shure its not oil because scince you have fair skin then you will burn and peel) also i suggest that you just give up tanning outdoors and move to indoor tanning indoor tanning will allow you to tann and not burn and also you will get dark maybe darker then your mom !!! lol also i suggest if you do tann indoors that you start off at like 5 min and work your way up to the max. 20 min also go 2 days in a row then skip a day and so on. the only negative thing is the fees to tann but most tanning salons charge like 8 - 10 dollars a tan but also i recommend not using self tanners (fake tann) because it will rune your skinn and make you look orange besides it only lasts like 3-6 days

it incredibly is ridiculous... ...all of it. there is not any possibility-unfastened thank you to tan. i grew to grow to be into born and raised in South Florida, the tanning capital of the East Coast, and that i've got have been given had pores and epidermis optimal cancers, so i somewhat understand my stuff. in case you bypass tanning, your pores and epidermis will age swifter and be broken, end of tale. That being pronounced... you could now not basically bypass around gentle each and each and each and all of the time, now are you waiting to? So the respond is fake tanning. I somewhat have been doing it for years, and that i swear, no person will understand you're doing it. Plus, you have gotten a extra even tan with out pealing or strains. you have a pair concepts. Going to the tanning places and getting sprayed is effective for some days, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that this is in basic terms too extreme priced. you may get a can of spray on fake tan at drug shops for further or much less $10. That stuff works in approximately 4 hours, and it is going on even and seems super. finally, there are a number of moisturizing creams that, if used daily, will slowly make you tanner over the years. i do now not use lotion daily and that i'm now not that affected man or woman, so i money in on the spray tan, i money in on the CVS version of the aerosol stuff. do now not do injury on your pores and epidermis which you will remorseful approximately for some thing of your life. i'm 29 years previous and that i could desire to be careful each and every time i bypass outdoors now, and that i'm now not the only man or woman i understand who's my age with pores and epidermis optimal cancers. The fake tanning takes much less time, expenditures much less money, is extra useful on your pores and epidermis and seems extra useful, so do now not fry your self in a tanning mattress!!

They have no right to make fun of you. So what if you have fair skin, I do to. I don't tan, just like you. I get freckels. At least when you are old, you won't have many rinkels! Use suncreen spf 15 or higher. I fount out that Vaseline Healthy Glow lotion works best. It lets you build a faux tan gradualy.
Good Luck!!

i found this online i think it will help:
If you can't afford to spend the money on tanning booths, then you can tan in your own backyard! All you need is your tanning lotion and a beach chair. Position the chair in the yard where the sun will hit you directly. Next, lay there until you turn slightly red. It will turn brown in a couple of days.
You're done!! Ah, being tan is wonderful!
lol good luck

If I were you I would use tanning oil. It helps you get a nice dark tan. Or buy a darkening tanning lotion. Just make sure you reapply the lotions to not burn. And I guess you could always fake-bake at a tanning salon. You could talk to them and they can give you the right lotions that are going to help you get dark and not burn by looking at your skin type. Hope this kinda helped..

I'd say the best tan is a fake tan. Sure, the old products from the last decade sucked and were orange, but nowadays, advanced research in the newest products makes you golden and you really can't tell!
Plus, no tan lines!

Don't give in, girlfriend. If it makes ya feel better, try one of the tans in a bottle...looks like these other girls know what they're talking about in that regard. But hey, based on what you've just said, YOU, my dear, are the fairest in the land (or at least your neighborhood). Fair = light skinned. Think about all the poetry and prose that has been written for a fair skinned girl....colored girls are proud of their color...you should be proud of yours! Wear colors that accent it, and I'm TELLIN ya, you'll not be lacking for attention.
