They didn't trade him. His contract was over making him a free agent. He decided to go with the Mavericks so it wasn't the Lakers' decision.

It's official, Devean George is now a Dallas Maverick. Unfortunately, he was not traded, he was signed as an unrestricted free agent. This means that the Lakers basically let him go because they couldn't afford to resign him to a new, more expensive contract. The Mavericks picked him up and the Lakers get nothing for it.

pyeung242- George wasn't be payed enough LA? According to basketball-reference.com, Devean George made $5 million his last year in LA. According to Hoopshype, George is making just $2 million per year. The fact of the matter is that George is still lucky to be in the league, capitalizing on the success of the 3peat Lakers. He's a nice role player but definately not worth the hefty contract he had with the Lakers.

As for George being traded, it is completely true. Like I said earlier, George is a marginal player at best so there was little to no chance of him being traded for anything of worth in return after his expiring contract was up. Good moves by the Lakers letting him walk and paying Radmanovic whose going to make a big difference for that team. I'll be rooting for them and Kobe this season.
