My God, you Americans!

A day ago I asked, in "Politics" (but I could just as well have put it in "Education," "Society and Culture" or perhaps "Relationships")
why Americans can't seem to bear teaching TRULY AND COMPLETELY COMPREHENSIVE sex education, such as I had,
in schools. If you check the answers to my Q ("USA Sex Education Controversy") you will see some personal pontificating, a couple liberal and another couple with heads in the sand, but only one - only one! - of five that, in a part of her A, actually answered my question.

What is it with your culture??

When I was in sex-ed (15 years ago) we were taught the basics...birth control, male and female sex organs and how pregnancy occurs. THAT'S IT. I think they teach just enough to make kids curious, so OF COURSE they're going to want to go out and have sex. The ones who don't were probably scared sh*tless of what they were taught, or maybe (hopefully!) had parents who put the fear of God into them as to why they should wait.

I don't think schools should be forced to teach much more than the basics. (i.e., no pictures of aborted fetuses or anything like that). I think it's up to the parents to teach REAL sex-ed. I think most parents do, but they don't do much more than what schools do.

I have two toddler sons, and when they get old enough, you bet your sweet @ss I'm teaching them EVERYTHING I can about sex. Anything I'm unsure of (mostly "guy" stuff) I'll leave to my husband. With everything else relating to sex/relationships/pregnancy, etc. it's gonna be no holds barred.

I think our culture is too scared of offending someone. This doesn't relate directly to sex-ed, but somewhere, deep down, it affects how it's taught in our schools. Same thing goes for some parents...they're embarrased or, for whatever reason, don't think their kids need to know EVERYTHING. If a kid doesn't know everything (or as much as possible) about sex, how are they going to find out? By trying it!

EDITED

Perhaps it is not the sex ed that bothers them. Children need to know about 'reproduction,' and about the names of all their body parts. Most parents are not opposed to that. I would even go so far as to say that even 'mentioning which body parts are most sensitive to stimulation' would not not be crossing the line.

However much what is taught now is crossing moral boundaries. For example anal, oral, manual and whatever other forms of sex possible - are often mentioned - as if they were perfectly normal activities. Not everybody agrees with this teaching. This is not how our bodies were intended to be used, and these things are not a part of reproduction. If people want varied sex that is their business - but it in not a child's business, unless it comes as a warning against things pediphiles might try.

It is abusive to teach a young girl that oral sex (for example) is a safe alternative to pregnancy because she doesn't have the maturity to fight off offensive advances from boys or men. She doesn't have the emotional defenses and young girls just want to be liked and accepted - they are not out to have sex. Usually that is the case with very young boys also, unless they are encouraged and taught by other boys.

If moralizing or 'options' are to be taught this must be taught in the home where the children are loved and nurtured - not in a public forum where ever sort of view and 'principle' is acceptable. There is no possible reason to expose children to EX-RATED material. Education and science? Sure. Not every act of copulation or sick idea that becomes common-place. Not for kids.

Measuring the penis when it isn't erect is pointless, since the length and bulk are affected by various temporary factors, such as the ambient temperature. Even the largest male organ can shrink to virtually nothing if the man goes for a swim in cold water. However, at normal temperatures a non-erect p enis usually measures between 8.5 cm and 10.5 cm (3-4 inches) from tip to base.

The average figure is about 9.5 cm (3.75 inches). Of course, it's true that some men have big penises and some have smaller ones, just as some men have small feet and some have big feet, but the measurement is not – repeat not – an index of virility.

Education is limted to curriculum. They obviously do not investigate on a per need basis but by vote. This may indicate adding an issue vote on the next general election in each community based on their tolerance levels. As it stands any format would appear to be regressive to the need to benefit the student.

At least they are getting SOME Sex Ed. When I was in High School, W-a-y Back When, (just after Noahs' ark landed) Sex Ed was a short pamphlet in Physiology class, read in silence, no discussion at all. Outside of names of parts etc...very little info. And, Heaven forbid - NO mention of condoms! That would have been unthinkable!

Bible Belt mentality. I am glad that I was not raised in that environment. Although my mother thought the human body was ugly, she did not force me to think along these lines as even she realized that she had been forced to believe things against her will and thought it was too late to change.

Unfortunately this is reflected on today's' culture. With time, perhaps this generation, will this change but I doubt it.

Sadly this is just one example of precisely how STUPID Americans really are... take a trip to Europe... they'll gladly point the way to how America fits (doesn't fit) in the world today.
