i would say that ur only a little overweight. 165 for being 12 yrs old is a little heavy, and plus itll stunt ur growth so u wont grow as tall. Maybe u only need to loose 25 pounds or so?
ive lost 15 pounds in the last few months and this diet really helped:
no bread/rice/pasta. seriously. i mean u can eat a little wheat bread or brown rice just to get nutrition, but no big bowls of noodles or white rice. White rice and pasta and bread are refined carbs which are bad. Go for brown rice, whole wheat.
vegetables! most ppl eat SO LITTLE vegetables! like.. a serving of peas or greenbeans is supposed to last u a week! eat steamed vegetables, or even stir fry. eat lots. lots.
fruits, instead of eating chips when ur hungry, pick up a banana, or orange, or grapes, or apple.
no butter, no ranch or thousand island dressing. if u need dressing on ur salad, get balsalmic venegrete.
dont eat fried stuff, grilled is better. NO juice or soda!!! each can/glass is 100+ calories. No fastfood!
for a girl whose 5'5, to loose weight, you should go down to 1500 calories/day or so. just read the lables on the stuff u eat. add it up.
other than that, excercise! 45min a day, just do some fast walking at first, then running. and increase the time more as u do it.
---------
hope this helps! good luck to you. Dont give up!

I'm 5'3" and 165 - size 12/14. You prolly hold your weight pretty well.
Get to love salads - do more physical activities (even chores) and less sitting down...the more you are doing something, the more calories you burn and the less you think about eating (keep the mind busy elsewhere).
You prolly don't want to lose too much weight but by not thinking about it, and staying active and involved in something, you'll notice the subtle changes evolve....in the meantime, wear clothes that fit you - accentuate the positives about you and take care or your appearance - that will make you look better than you feel about your weight.
Find yourself and your interests and begin to like who you are. Others will notice and let you know when something is different - let that be your goal keeper.

Get involved with sports and most of it will melt off of you before you know it! Go out with your friends and walk around the mall while you look at guys or go to the park and play tennis or basketball. Exercise always works better if you have someone to do it with you. And don't just exercise to lose weight, do it to get in shape!
