Penguins don't just live very far south. They live here in Australia about 5 miles from where I'm typing this (Melbourne)

Penguins are everywhere, there are warm water and cold water penguins. And I believe they live on every continent in the world.

because they look so different i guess... little tit bit too, pingu was made as a statement about the iron curtain in the soviet union... kids shows always seem to have loads of hidden meanings

That's easy. Our explorers went and saw them, and were amazed and inspired by them. They look and act human at times, and live in conditions that you and I could never survive in. And they are cute!!!!
