The question you should be asking is "Why DID feminists burn their bras?'
Cause we don't anymore.
If a man, in the 60's or 70's, "TRIED" on a bra in some sort of empathy to see why some feminists were burning bras, then they would understand how CONSTRICTING bras could be. Cause they would not want to be wearing them either. It's called NOT BEING ABLE TO BREATHE. And some women wanted answers as to who constructed these torture devices. Some women got fed up on the whole notion of what "perfect breasts" were supposed to be like and the bras made by companies who were supporting that. The whole bra burning was about reclaiming our bodies by those that supported the notion of what a perfect woman was: someone whose clothes and undergarments (among other things) were defined by a male dominated society.

Bras have come some way since then but not by much. Based on the woman, bras still can be constricting. Not every woman is built the same. We are not cookie cut outs cause this what alot of companies/corporations do not seem to understand or care to know about. They still pigeon hole women as certain sizes like petite and have large sizes that still don't fit women of varying proportions. Alot of women must go to specialty stores to get their clothes, lingerie and coats cause mainstream society does not accept their size. Why? Because companies/corportions are still cashing in on their idea of the "perfect woman". Her thighs aren't that big, neither are her hips and waist, her arms are slender, her chest should support cleavage but be slender at the same time and her a ss, well her a ss is always open for discussion.
It's called "exploiting the buyer and potential buyers". It's called notions of what is "acceptable" beauty.
So unless you've worn a bra and had the experience of wearing a bra, don't talk about stuff that you are clueless about.
Go back to basking in your masculinity and have a nice day.

I think the idea is that bras constrict a woman's body in the same way that the social rights and laws were constricting and molding women in society, plus bras insinuated that a woman's body is something that needs hiding and containing as if being a woman was an embarrassing thing. It is a really good signifier and definitely was something not done in more conservative decades so it also got people's attention. Now bras are often designed as a way of pronouncing a women's body but at the same time they can also have the opposite effect of exploiting a woman's body and again making it more difficult for a woman to be recognized as an equal so bras are difficult and now that I'm thinking about it perhaps I don't really know.

I think that is ridiculous! Feminism is great and all--but women are undeniably anatomically different from men! What is the point in defiance of that sort?? A dress code that mandates 'women wear skirts'--now there's something to fight about. We can't possibly be exactly the same as men and it is stupid to try. Why not just decide that we can be just as good and still be women?? If bras have the potential to make one more attractive, why should you burn that option to fail at making a point and be less physically appealing to members of society (not just men I'm talking about here, girls don't want to see it either).

I don't think they do, nowdays. Do they?

I wouldn't do it, so I'll try my best to explain on the basis of logic. To them, a bra may be something that makes them different from men that they "can" change. They also might feel the society made them wear it, that they are wearing it by choise. This is why they burn it.

They are not wearing expensive enough bras, that's why. lol.

That was a sixties thing. They did it to protest gender roles. We don't burn our bras anymore because.... hmm...(thinking)... well because anyone who would want to burn their bras already did so back in the sixties and they probably wouldn't want to buy another one if they still feel the same way.

Cause it a sign of being a female.

Plus theres a lovely, society makes me wear it to conform to standards set by men who have no idea and that it shows in so many way how women and there bodies are not free.
