It's really sad that America is being sold our own oil at highly inflated prices by a foreign country.
Our politicians will sell any part of our country or resources to whoever pays them the biggest bribe.

Great question, but I'd ask it a different way that actually answers your question:

Why did the American taxpayer pay for the Alaskan pipeline when BP, who makes profits off of taxpayers, gets to use it?

Because politicians are controlled by the big oil lobby. Don't just blame Bush. Every president over the past 100 years has had his pockets lined by big oil. Bush is just the one in charge now.

Because Bush does everything he can to help big oil. His "blind trust" which was already rich, rich with oil money has grown to unimaginable amounts since he has been in office.

Anyone who gave him money for his two campaigns has reaped the benefit multi-thousands fold.

Not to mention how much Cheney is raking in. And Rumsfield, and Haliburton. I can't go on, I'll barf all over my computer and that is bad for key boards.
