Usually depends. If I have a Ford, I don't generally buy a manual as I pretty much know the timing marks and most that can go wrong. I bought a manual for my Subaru last year and now that I now the basics and given that Subarus are all pretty much the same, I won't need to buy another unless I own one with a DOHC to lock the cam damper. Now that the internet is well established it is also much easier to get information online.
