I don't believe they are as courteous to other drivers as they used to be. They don't seem to care whether or not they run people over and kill them or not. There is an intersection with a stop light where I live and I bet at least once every two months someone gets killed there. And its always because some truck driver ran the stop light again. This summer, it was a mother of 3 little children.

Trucking has gone downhill. The industry isn't what it once was..drivers used to look out for each other, now it's cutthroat like every other business. Drivers have to compete with non English speaking foreigners, poorly paid and trained drivers from "driver mills" like Schneider, Swift, JB Hunt, Wal Mart, etc., The CB radio that used to be a benefit for drivers is now a jumble of stupidity, arguing, swearing, and people speaking Arabic and Spanish. 10-4 good buddy now means you're a homosexual. The things that made trucking "cool" and why they made movies about it in the 70's are gone.
Oh well, I still have my CB in my 4 wheeler, come on, come in!

On one hand, they drive hard lonely shifts doing a job that is an immesurable service to America. Without truck drivers, we wouldn't be able to recieve the oil, gasoline, food or pretty much anything else we buy throughout the entire country.
I think it is unfair to call them fat, lazy slobs etc...because when you are driving a truck 24 hours a day 7 days a week, you have no time for excersize and since you have to eat on the go, you are likely to be unhealthy.
I just wish that truck driving wasn't so supportive of Prositution. In many places young girls solicit drivers for sex and since they are away from their wives for days on end, they are weak minded and accept the offers. This only adds to the spread of diseases.
Other than that, I love truck drivers. Without them I wouldn't be able to buy anything or have anything cause their would be no other way to get it.
I make it a practice to look out for their vehicles and give them a wide birth. Not only because a truck is difficult to control but because so many drivers are rude to truck drivers and make their job harder.

They work hard! Long, lonely hours, and most drivers don't give them the right of way when they should.
I make it a practice to look out for big rigs because they can't maneuver like the cars that surround them. I don't care if I'm doing 80 mph in the fast lane... if I see a semi in the slow lane, and there's a merge lane coming up, I will apply my brakes and flash my lights to let the trucker know he can safely move into my lane and avoid the dangers of merging traffic.
When a motorcycle hit a patch of gravel on a merge lane and wiped out, I had a semi behind me and we were both headed straight for the poor motorcyclist who was now laying on the ground. I applied my flashers and slowly brought the truck behind me to a halt. He would have been mortified if he'd hit that poor man.
I love them! They are important to our society. More than people realize!

i can tell you what i know about truck drivers i use to do it about seven years ago and most people think it is easy to sit and drive all day long. there is so much more to it then that. i now drive tow truck, I'm the one that gets to come oUT and get you when you break down. I work in s.l.c. ut. but we do go out of state from time to time. I wish people had to take a class on truck drivers just to see what we have to go through. my wife has gone with me on some of my calls and she can't see how we do our jobs all day every day.

My husband is a truck driver, so maybe I am bias, but with out them what would we do? Yeah you do have some of them who do give them a bad name, but they are not all that stereo type people give them. I have gone with my hubby in the truck a few times, and I see the crap people give truckers, how they cut them off or pull in front of them and stop suddenly. We have been to many different places and met a lot of nice people out on the road. Thank you to all you truck drivers.

I dont have an opinion either way. I think they're hard workers. And also, its varies EXTREMELY from one to another....for instance, a long haul truck driver is going to have a different job, really, then say a cement truck driver that works 9-5.

My father owned and operated a trucking company for many years. He himself even drove the trucks. He was the best person I have ever known. When he died in 1984, the world lost a wonderful man. Today I look at honest truck drivers as decent respectable people. Just remember...they keep the world running. Without them you wouldn't have the things you have.
