At the age of 16, he had sex with a girl that said she was 17, (actually turned out she was only 13), 10 days later she filed rape charges, due to her mothers insistences, she had ruined my grandsons life, but she has a baby now 4 years later, (not my grandsons), and is walking the street as a whore, but my grandson is suffering for the fact she consentened to sex, so she goes on with her lifestyle of coruption, and he suffers--------I am very aware there is actual sex offenders in our society, but how can the public distinguish who really is and who in there younger life made a mistake? ---------any comments?

Thank you for writing this question!!! I understand completely. My boyfriend and the father of my child is in a similar situation. He had had sex with a girl who was underage and she consented. A week later her parents pressed charges. He isn't supposed to have any contact with her but she can talk to him any time she wants!! She is now dating a man who is older than my boyfriend and she is still underage!!! It really makes me angry. My boyfriend has spent the last four years in so-called sex offender therapy and all it has done is made him feel like a freak. He is a normal man who had consensual sex!! Now to answer your question. In my boyfriends case if he complies with all of his rules he can petition to have his name removed from the sex offender registry. I'm not sure that it will ever be removed from his record though! Please stay strong and continue to support your grandson!! I will say a prayer for you and your family!!!

Oh boy, a hard one..........
In today's climate, he's got real issues. Most states have different levels of sex offenders. He would based on your description be a low level case. Most likely he wort have any offender register reqirements. Now you said "charged." Did the case go to trial? Was it thrown out? Was he charged as a Adult or a Juvenile???? It matters in answering the question properly. Being charged is bad. Being convicted is real, real bad. Most jobs today require backround checks. If it's on a adult record, he is screwed. Same for most Goverment jobs. Again without more detail, I can't help much more. My advice is, Look but don't tuch. Stay off the "Jailbait chicks." Have sex with the hot Teacher instead!!!!

Maybe she wouldn't be a whore if your ( so called Innocent )grandson didn't have sex with her.
Yeah yeah, we all heard that "she told me she was 17!!" B/S story. WE all heard it.
There has to be a fine line, between right and wrong in this and all cases.
Look at it this way. I guess the girl can go it to the porn business at 13 as long as she's sexually active.
Hell forget 13, how about 5yr or 1 month old.
You may not see it. but if you let him get away with it then who's to say what's right for every girl out there!!
You play, you pay!

Of all the question that can be asked on YAHOO, this is probably one of the worst.... What you really need is an attorney, not a PC.
Our legal system is complex and to make the matters worse, the details vary from state to state, AND it is ever changing. You can collect all the opinions and thoughts from here but at the end, it means absolutely nothing. None of us are legal expert, and the actual legal expert will not give you an advise at a forum like this.
Please consult with an attorney with your new found information and see if anything can be done.

THIRTEEN?! Your grandson is lying to you. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but no one mistakes a 17 year old for a 13 year old except: A) A rapist trying to avoid being punished or B)Someone so profoundly mentally retarded that they need to be locked up to protect society and himself.
And yea, if he had sex with a 13 year old, he raped her. He wasn't unjustly charged. He. Had. Sex. With. A. 13. Year. Old. Thirteen year olds can't legally consent. He raped her.

Maybe she lied and then again, maybe she did not. It is a moot point. The conviction will stand because he had sex with a minor. Maybe instead of trashing the girl, you also ought to realize he was wrong too and should have known better than to have sex at 17. Now he pays a heavy price. No doubt about it.
Chow!!

ok well the thing is this. its called personal responsiblity. regardless of what the woman is doing to her life now. how hard can it be to verify a persons age???.. did he know her for a while?? did he just pick her up somewhere and after 20 minutes decide to do the nasty??.. if he had known her for any period of time. then he could have found out her age. but i am guessing this is someone he just picked up and it was wham bam thank you maam. so regardless. you play with fire you get burned. there are always consequences involved when thinking with the small head. and who is to say she really DID say she was 17. its her word against his right?/ or were there independant peopel present who heard her say that?? mu guess is it is he said she said. and we all say stuff to make ourselves look the best.

unfortunately, he will be classified as a sex offender for the rest of his life. i am truly sorry for this situation, and women (teens) who are sleaze bags cry wolf and gets all the intention, and if i was in your shoes, i would have plead not guilty for rape and the whole thing would have went to court, and the girls true colors would have shown
and the answer from your_body_is...
there is a difference between sex and rape. in case you failed to realize or choose not to realize, rape is a crime; not sex. rape is having sexual intercourse against the will of the other person. sex is consensual, rape isn't.

once it goes to court and it's over, it's over. That's why they need to really look into these issues before taking it to trail. To many kids are using this on their teachers, preachers, and parents if they get pissed off at them. Tell Grandson to check ID first, before going for the dip.

If he was charged as a juvenile, then there's some hope of having it sealed when he reaches majority. If charged as an adult, he's stuck with it.
Did he not notice he hadn't seen her around high school?
