My father is giving me this car if I have it fixed. The car was towed home and is still stuck in park. Will not shift no matter what you try (I know how to start and shift a car into gear, thank you very much) something is broke.

common problem with that type and year transmission(if is OD440T4 but doupt it if it is OD)you would most likley have a 125c trans the parking paul pin sometimes would get damaged thus the parking paul would be out of place causeing this to lock

When you park on a hill, the car rolls slightly, putting pressure against the park mechanism in the transmission. If it's not too steep a hill, you can usually get it out of park by pulling a bit harder on the shifter. If you feel like you're going to break the shift lever because it's so hard to move, then have somebody push the car uphill to take the pressure off the parking pawl, and then you should be able to shift out of park.

For the next time, if your parking brake is in working condition (meaning that is hasn't sat unused for years), apply it first and let the car roll slightly until stopped, THEN shift into park. Then when you are ready to roll, shift out of park before releasing the parking brake. This will keep your current problem from happening again. Good luck!

Try having someone rock the car forward and back while attempting to shift the shifter......If that doesn't work, scotch the wheels where the vehicle can't roll and set park brake. The next step is to disconnect the linkage on the side of the tranny and see if you can shift it that way. If you can't shift it that way.... then it is locked internally and may require a new one. Good luck !

there is a little pin in the steering colum that sometimes comes lose but if it was fine the hill will put pressure on it try rocking the car back and forth while you shift out of park you may need to pull a little harder than normal but go ahead you are not going to break it unless you jerk it real hard but try rocking it pretty hard and shift at the same time
