1st of all, we'd need a lot more horses.
2ndly, they eat and poop a LOT. The care and feeding of a horse is much more expensive than an automobile.
The environmental resources that they'd use up in land, feed, waste- would far exceed that caused by the auto.
3. the don't go all that fast... or far.
4. if you think cars are dangerous...
5. much less comfortable
of course there are some plus sides as well- but you asked why we 'don't' use the horse and buggy
