Not the army, the Navy.

The boy stood on the burning deck, whence all but he had fled.

Jack Cornwall was a boy sailor at the Battle of Jutland and awarded a posthumous VC when he refused to leave his gun despite sustaining fatal wounds.

I suggest you put in a search for First World War Army casulaties and do a search for this. I did not find anything, but there was one site that might help, if you register with them.
It would be helpful if you checked your spelling of his name - is it really, "jackey?"

Hope this helps:>)
