The square root of something is the number that when multiplied by itself returns you to the original number. For example - the square root of 9 is 3 and 3 multiplied by 3 in 9. The square root of 289 is 17 and 17 multiplied by 17 is 289.
Calculators have a square root button (√) so enter 88 into your calculator and press the √ button.
To make sure you've got the hang of it work out the square root of 100 and the square root of 15129 - the answers you get should be 10 and 123.
