No their is no substitute buy the gauge it's about buck almost anywhere .... save yourself the trouble do it right.

ok I'm not sure if your refering to a gap gauge or a spark gap tester. Gap gauges are so common I think aotozon sells them as key rings. If you insist I guess you can buy a micrometer for a few hundred bucks. Truth is back in the day of my uncles garage he would just gap them based on eye sight.

If your refering to a spark gap tester, just ground a plug againts the engine start teh engine and observe the spark. be careful though 9-10 people get teh bejesus shocked out of them while attempting this.

For what sort of plug? For MOST cars, you can use the edge of a table knife in absolutely necessary. But why. At nearly ANY discount parts store they are less than $1.50!!

most plugs are pre-set you gont have to do sh*t to them
