Petrol price is decided by the vendor - in the Middle East, North Sea, Texas or Russia- and is much the same the world over, although individual countries may have deals with individual providers. How much it actually costs the man in the street, on the other hand (the purchase price), is affected by the retailers - and of course by tax. I heard that petrol in this country (UK) is a similar price to milk - until you add the tax. Could that possibly be true??

Petrol tax makes petrol in the UK some of the most expensive in the world. What the petrol companies charge is irrelevant.

Yes petrol would be amazingly cheap if it wasnt for the tax on it....
I got back from France at the weekend and was shocked by there prices - average 1.43Euros per litre (which is over a pound a litre) there diesel prices however are about half the unleaded prices.......
Saving on cigarettes is getting less and less though - save about a pound a packet now.

Tax, somthing like 80% of gasoline expenditures are tax. the actual value of manufacturing diesel varies in accordance to provide and demand, the a lot less those who use diesel the more cost-effective it really is because a particular quantity of diesel is a organic by ability of-made from oil refining, like LPG, yet when the decision for for diesel is larger then a larger percentage of the crude oil has for use to make diesel and it surely will develop into better severe priced to refine than petrol, desire it incredibly is sensible.

petrol in UK mega expensive. I went to america two years ago and filled up tank for 20 dollars. As a scot this riles me considering that we have offshore oil. Why mainland britain has such high tax on our own commodity is beyond reasonable.
