Personally, the thing that has helped me more than anything throughout school is simply doing work during the boring parts of class.

Most teachers (from my experience), fill up maybe half the class period with useful information (lectures, homework advice, test review, etc.). Much of the rest of the time is spent quieting the class, rambling on about personal lives, or re-reviewing material that one or two student's were absent for.

Believe it or not, the number one reason why student's don't do homework, or study, is that they don't feel like it once they get home. Home is their place to have fun, or to go out and have fun there. Sometimes there just isn't time to do work.

Although it certainly wouldn't fill up a study skills class, if your student's can learn to make good use of their time (that is, all the time that they spend blankly staring at a wall, or whatever else while nothing important happens), then they have learned the most important study skill of all.

There shouldn't be a study class. There only needs to be 2 things that happen:
1. students become unlazy
2. teachers are clear throughout the lessons what is important to know for the test and be clear of the format of the test
