both those answers are stupid ok your reverse clutch drum has a problem because 2nd and reverse are both working @ the same timeyou might have bad clutches or the seal in the piston of the sunshell is broke
converter has nothing to do with first second .... or any gear only thing a converter will do when bad is quit moving or no lock up you will know when a convertor goes because it will whin if you had the trans worked on someone screwed up and you newed to take it back right away ok now if this is a manual trans you could have a 2nd gear sincro's out. clutch might need ajusted many things could be wrong if you could give me more info i could help you get it fixed and give you info on a respectable shop to take it to

How many miles? Sounds like maybe it's got a bad torque converter. These locking torque converters go bad. The clutch inside will wear out eventually. Good luck.

Depends on the car. A Dodge perhaps? Sounds like it's in "limp-in" mode. If it's a dodge, reprogram the computer. Buy the manual or look up on line to get the procedure.
