i dont want it to be anything big/fancy(or EXPENSIVE!), but i want it to be nice, maybe a little, semi-formal. Something that would be a great place to share with maybe about 8 friends to just kick it with AND a bf to be romantic with... where can i go?

The Stinking Rose. It is in North Beach. You will not forget it. Look over their menu...

There are lots of great restaurants in San Francisco (and please do not say "frisco").

$$$
Michael Mina (a bit overrated for me)
Gary Danko (ok)

$$
House of Prime Rib
Slanted Door
Isa (can be cozy, can also accomodate larger groups, but really tight)
Chapeau (my favorite french bistro)
Clementine (can sometimes be stuffy)
Foreign Cinema (always fun)
Betelnut
Ma Tante Sumi (cozy place, maybe not for 8 people)

i'll tell you if you stop calling it "Frisco." and shame on the person who recommended "The Stinking Rose." It is the worst tourist trap in the city. SF has hundreds of fine restaurants, and everyone remembers the shiitholes!

Please don't call us "Frisco." :-(

But... a few places that are good for young groups (especially birthdays!) and kind of middle-of-the-road on expense are:

1. Bucca di Beppo in SoMa

2. Max's Opera Cafe in Opera Plaza

3. Empress of China in Chinatown

Have fun!

Go to one of the restaurants on the embarcadero. It's relaxing, semi-formal, and afterwards there will be plenty to do/see with all the performers there and the bay.

Go anywhere you want because San Francisco is the bomb. I love the atmosphere and the Victorian houses. I might want to live there some day.

The Cliff House is perfect for what you are looking for. Please, however, don't call San Francisco "Frisco". Its San Francisco or the city.
