I've seen it and I love it to death!!!!! But just because I like it might not mean that you'll like it, you should watch a few clips are go to a website and see what it's about and if it appeals to you than go ahead and buy the DVD!
Here's a site you can check out for snapshots of the show or reviews on the movies, episodes and other things!

It is a good buy, but not at one episode at a time. Go for the box sets first and then later you can pick up the movies. They are also good, but aren't necessary for the main story line.
I have followed Inyuasha since it first came to Cartoon Network, almost three years ago. It is an excellent series and has spawned three movies. New episodes are currently running on the Cartoon Network and the series is so popular that they are running reruns on Saturdays too. I suggest that you watch some episodes on Cartoon Network before buying the series, if that is possible. That will give you an idea of how good it really is.
The story is set in the Warring States period of Japan, their version of the European Middle Ages; only in this period there really are demons. Kagomina is a junior high school student from the current era. She falls down a magical well at her grandfather’s shrine. She passes into the Warring States Era and meets Inyuasha, a half-demon who was imprisoned on the Tree of Ages. Kagomina releases him and starts her adventures. Along the way they meet a three friends, one who is a friendly child demon. In this series demons can be evil or helpful spirits. Most full demons seem to be evil though, or they don’t give much consideration to the short-lived humans. Half demons are born when a demon and a human meet and fall in love, so all full blooded demons can’t be bad.
Inyuasha meets his full demon brother Lord Seshorimau and visits his father’s grave where he obtains the sword Tetsiga. The rest of the story is about the adventures that Inyuasha, Kagomina, and the their friends have fighting evil demons, and questing for the Shikon Jewel (the Jewel of Three Souls). They meet an evil powerful demon who becomes their major enemy in the series.
The story gets complicated from there. If you are buying the first series of DVDs then I wouldn’t have spoiled anything more than the first episode. If you are buying one of the movies or other DVDs in the series then you are going to get a little confused, unless you know the background of the story.
If you like stories of good vs. evil in a Feudal Japanese setting then this series is for you. It is a fantasy with a lot of magic and swordplay. There is no sex, but there is a lot of bloodshed, and death. The dynamic between Inyuasha and Kagomina is funny and interesting. There is also the possibility of love between them, if Inyuasha can get his head on straight. As the story continues the characters get a bit stronger, they also meet a lot of hardship and danger. The series is an action packed fantasy adventure with good character development a good story line and good character development.

I was already an Inu-Yasha fan before it started airing on Cartoon Network. I will admit, I have problems with the American voice actors, as well as the Westernized pronounciation of some of the names. So I stick to my DVDs, which I can watch in Japanese.
I like to watch as the characters, even Inu-Yasha grow and develop. They make mistakes, they fight, they even seperate occasionally. Yet they are there for one another when it's most critical.

Hm, Inuyasha isn't a bad series, but it drags on way too long for me.
If you want a series with lots of romance and comedy, go for it. But not if you want a series that actually gets *resolved* at *some* point.
I second Elfen Lied though. Very bloody, but very interesting series there, from what I've seen (only seen 5 episodes though)

Inu-Yasha is a very good anime. It mixes together romance, comedy, angst, and action in just the right porportions to make a really good story. You don't have to buy it to see it, it is on on Adult Swim (cartoon network p.m.) at around 12:30, depending on the time zone.

InuYasha is Great, almost as Good as DBZ. As someone also said get Elfin Lied, I have all the downloaded episode, its great.
Good character, a little adult humor at times and nice drawn character.
Kagura is the best even thought she is evil.

Don't buy that worthless crap. If you want to see real anime, check out The Ghost in the Shell movie and series or the Lain series.
