Well I go to eBay for ideas. I started making towel cakes a couple months ago. This is how Idid it
Get a decorative plate and a good size jar candle. place the candle on the plate. You will need safety pins too. Wrap towels neatly around the candle. Pin them together. Bottom layer done. Get a bottle of wine or sparkling juice and set it on the candle. Wrap the towel around the bottle for the next layer. You can also hide hot pads and wash cloths in the towels. When done wrap in cellophane and add some ribbons.
