Hello, i gave up 2 years in feb... and i went through hell and back trying to give up.. i tried patches, gum, sprays, going cold turkey... even the fact that my dad had lung cancer didn't scare me into it... :(

But i dubiously booked myself in for Hypnotherapy and its the best thing i have ever done... i had 1 one hour session and afterwards it was still hard but it really just took the edge off the craving... also i personally had the feeling that i had just put one out... and i just didn't want another one so soon after....

I was a complete sceptic about the whole hypno thing, the whole time she was talking to me with my eyes shut i was thinking... "what a load of rubbish.. this isn't going to work" etc, etc....then she asked me to open my eyes when she got to 1 from 10... and as soon as i opened them.. i felt like id been asleep for a week!...

Really weird... but absolutely works... my partners dad went to the same women... and he had smoked for 40 years... and he has given up also for over a year...

Give it a go!... you have nothing to lose! :) x

Hi Mark T.,I believe you know that smoking is a habit,a habit once formed is not that easy to break.Nevertheless you started it and only you can determine to give up.if you really mean to give up then consider the following ;
1Why did you started all?
2 How long are you into smoking?
3 Has smoking resolved the reason you started at all?
4 Are there compelling forces like friends or people who will make giving up a problem?
5 What benefits if i had to give up smoking?
If you can honestly address these points, then you can work out a plan to free yourself. You have to have the determination and will to quit smoking.you sure can do it.I've seen people resolve to give up smoking un aided and stay to it.Others less determined may need a work up plan that may include a gradual denicotinisation through the use of nicoderm or patches.
Still I believe the best bet is not to wait until medical results indicate close calls like cancer, tuberculosis etc.
Look yourself in the mirror tell him you had enough, save every cent that would go for a packet, severe every relationship that get along the way and you'll be there .Good luck mark.

Firstly sit down and list all the times when you would normally smoke, such as after meals, when you wake up and before going to bed, at work breaks and lunch breaks, and all the other times.
Then you must break this routine. You may want to try chewing gum at these times, listening to music or having a talk with a friend or doing light exercise. Most people find this distracts them and also gives their hands something to do.
Also, set yourself a reward or target for stopping from smoking for a week, month and year. Putting the money in the jar will be an incentive to stick to your non-smoking plan, and will give you something to look forward to, and is a reminder of the money you waste.
Encourage family to help- if they smoke, encourage one of them to stop with you and give support. Ask them to go outside and not offer you a cigarette, and to remind you that you should not be smoking.
After you start to cut out the cigarettes, just keep reminding yourself of the reward you set yourself. Family support is critical here also.
You will feel better soon and healthier.

Do it! Its the best thing I ever did!

Take it one day at a time.
Chew gum, doesnt have to be the special type, mint will do.
Try to avoid the cravings by keeping busy doing stuff you wouldnt normally do when you were a smoker. (example, if you used to smoke watching TV in the evening, avoid watching TV in the evening ...Its not forever, took me about two weeks before I thought I had cracked it.)

Def worth doing tho.
I feel sooooooo much better for quitting!
Good Luck!

Quit cold turkey. Like with any addiction, you must take it one day at a time. You have to want to quit, and support from friends and family helped. My dorm (at college) put up signs with my picture, offering a small few-dollar cash reward to anyone reporting me smoking. This was partially my idea and my RAs, because I really wanted to quit. I could have easily smoked in secret, but that wasn't the point. I had all these people, and friends at home, and family, rooting for me.

My husband was a forty a day smoker he used nicquitin clear patches for around eight weeks, said they were brilliant and really took the edge of the cravings, although dont leave them on overnight as they can give you very vivid nightmares!!

This was over two years ago and he hasnt has a smoke since!!

Good luck mate, I know how hard it is to quit!!!

Can I just say Cotes du Rhone girl is completely right? I smoked for twenty odd years, and that's exactly how I gave up, and exactly how it panned out.

Oh yeah, and the hidden bonus that no-one really mentions is that you also get the knowledge that you gave up smoking - you won - you achieved this thing that so many find so hard.

Come on now, you're a winner, right? You can do this.

Depends on how heavy of a smoker you are. If your a heavy smoker. 9 times out of 10 cold turkey does not work. Best thing to do is get meds from your dr or pacthes. Most people pick up weight when they quit. They turn to food to keep there hands busy. Now if your a light smoker. Cold turkey may work for you.

Every time you would normally buy ciggies, stick the money aside and watch it grow, that will help. Also if you like a beer or two, stay away from that for the first few weeks, it weakens you.
