I'm thinking maybe writing everything down (like what we did in that class and if there is any homework or not), but do you have any other tips? I'm going into my freshmen year in HS.

Taking notes is the first step to success; reviewing and possibly rewriting the notes that day or the next is the second. Third would be to compare your notes with the notes of other people you know are smart. During the next class session when the teacher goes over the previous lecture, you will seem like a genius because the simple act of reviewing your notes helps cement the information into your brain, AND you will be able to answer questions. This has helped me to turn in all my homework on time and done correctly
The next thing is to make sure you give yourself plenty of time to do the homework without distractions. A ratio of two hours for every hour in class is recommended at the college level and
it works in HS too!
ORGANIZATION IS KEY TO SUCCESS!!

I am sorry no one taught you these study habits in middle or junior high school. Have a notebook for each subject. Take clear notes during class and write down what your assignments are, when they are due, and any other important information. Ask the teacher if you don't understand the directions. You must keep yourself very organized in high school because every teacher has a different way of doing things, a different way to set up your homework and project papers, and different expectations. Pay attention at all times and don't hesitate to ask for extra help from the teacher if you need it.

Buy a good daily student planner - something that has one page for each day, so you have room to write the homework for each class, scheduled quizzes and tests, etc. Make sure you have a notebook for each class too - preferrably college ruled (you take a lot of notes in high school). Keep organized.
