My brother hit a guy after the guy made a racial comment, just as a police patrol car was driving by. My brother was handcuffed immediately, but later released after the police officer heard the whole story. My brother was still charged with 4th degree assault and has a pending curt date........ so yes you can be charged with a crime for hitting someone, though it's up to the circumstances and the individual law officers involved that will determine weather you will be arrested. Either way it will be up the curt system that will determine weather you will be convicted of the charge and of the sentencing that comes with it.

This, and it all depends of the force of the punch, or slap, could amount to a batterry under Offences against the Person Act - or an assault under s47 of the Offences against the Person Act. These are arrestable offences - especially if the skin is broken !!

If you haven't been charged by now, chances are you won't be. However, this is assault and it would constitute jail time, sure.

Yep. It's called Battery.
It's not legal to put your hands on anyone else, and that person could press charges if they want.

It is assault regardless but the punishment might be worse depending on who it is. For example if it is a policeman, most definitively.
