Yes.. stealing is stealing..
Having said that.. do it.. don't let those beaurocratic cable companies get your money. It's not like they're going to miss it or ever know.. make you pay for a service that's running through the cables anyways.. bastardos..

If someone is found to be using cable from someone else without correct or proper authorization, it is punishable by law as an illegal offense and there can be stiff fines and/or jail time.
In my city, our cable company goes through areas that they suspect cable useage is being cyphoned for free use. It's not something someone should even consider.
So, is stealing cable unethical? Stealing is unethical...therefore, stealing cable is indeed unethical.

If the only people who profited out of selling cable where the rich CEO's and other executives then I'd say "NO", it's not unethical. However, since there are many people just trying to make a living by working at a cable company, then I have to say "YES" it is unethical.

No, cable companies do unethical things all the time. I dont see why you should worry about what is unethical towards them. If you didnt steal cable from them and they kept ripping their customers off, who wins? at least by stealing you keep things even.

Imagine that your work in the cable company.. and a lot of people get the cable for free... what will happen.
The Cable company will lose money and lay off some people you could be one of them. ( Assuming that you work there).
Would you consider laying off workers because the company does not make money or less money than planned because of the people who steal cable ethical or unethical?

If you are intentionally breaking into the cable box or pedestal or wiring yourself into your neighbor's cable, yes, it is unethical. However, if the cable company just happened to leave the service turned on - no, it's not really unethical - sometimes the cable companies will leave the cable on for weeks or months so that when they finally turn it off, you're dependant on it and will pay for it.

Yes it is illegal. Yes it does screw up the signal for other people. My neighbor stole cable for years...always asked if I wanted in on his scam, I'm that person who always gets caught no matter what so I said no.
Well I finally signed up for cable about three years later and the signal was crappy, always blurry, fuzzy or shadowed. I called the company out many times to fix it. First they said it was the receiver, then my TV, then my house wiring, finally one guy figured it out. There was an illegal hookup to the box and it was killing the signal. The illegal hookup was my neighbors.....I did play stupid to the service tech but told the neighbor to watch out he was going to get caught.
He did get caught....only after it was found out he was stealing city water as well. He doesn't talk about it to anyone but he did have to declare bankruptcy to pay the fines and court fees.
So not only is it illegal but the people that actually pay for the service have to suffer through the problems your theft caused.

do you believe in the ten commandments?
do you believe stealing is wrong/unethical?
do you like people to take (steal) stuff of yours?
it doesn't matter what (cable tv) or from whom (a big corporation) you steal from - stealing is stealing.

yes, stealing anything is illegal. It doesn't really hurt anyone unless the cable company spends money to investigate these issues, then spreads that cost out to those of us who pay for a cable subscription.
